Consultant


Arabella Hall is a Consultant at Poseidon, specialising in fisheries, aquaculture and wider marine resource management. Arabella holds a BSc (Hons) in Marine Biology from the University of Southampton, as well as an ISO 19011 Lead Auditor certification. Her work combines analytical expertise in marine ecology, fisheries and aquaculture science, and quantitative data analysis with applied advisory support for public and private sector clients.

Arabella provides expertise across fisheries and aquaculture assessment, seafood traceability and supply chain analysis, marine environmental research, grant evaluation, and policy and governance support. She has held roles including data analyst, researcher, desk officer, and interviewer, contributing technical analysis and evaluations for a diverse portfolio of projects. Her experience includes quantitative and qualitative research, stakeholder consultation, field and desk-based investigations, and the preparation of clear, evidence-led reporting to inform decision-making in complex regulatory and commercial contexts.

Her work focuses on applying scientific and analytical approaches to challenges in sustainable fisheries management, aquaculture development, seafood supply chains, marine environmental assessment, and policy evaluation. She is particularly experienced in synthesising complex technical information and translating it into practical, client-focused insights that support strategic planning, programme delivery and informed policy development.

Arabella has contributed to projects for a diverse portfolio of clients, including the Marine Stewardship Council, Thai Union Group, the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, the Marine Management Organisation, Mowi, Thai Union, the Global Ghost Gear Initiative, and the Environment Agency. Through this work, she has supported projects in the UK, the EU, and further afield, contributing strong analytical capability, applied research expertise, stakeholder engagement and project delivery experience within multidisciplinary marine and policy-focused teams.

Arabella’s work has included:

UK: Human Rights Impact Assessments (HRIAs) and Establishment of Action Plans for the UK Nephrops & Scallop Supply Chains. Co-author and researcher: team member assisting in the identification of the salient risks of the two fisheries utilising stakeholder engagement and desk-based research, combined with evaluation of the likelihood of said risks, and their potential mitigations (Seafish, 2025 - 2026).

EU: Development of a framework of verifiable sustainability indicators and digital tools to improve how information about sustainable seafood production and consumption is communicated. Consortium partner and technical advisor: provided knowledge regarding fisheries and aquaculture, and supported the development of verifiable sustainability indicators (Verifish, 2025 - 2026).

UK: Assessment of UK Industry Practices and Animal Numbers in Decapod and Cephalopod Supply Chains. Co-author and researcher: investigation into the UK live supply chains of decapods and cephalopods, as well as supporting the development of a conversion metric to enable approximate quantification of the number of animals traded live (Defra, 2025 - 2026).

UK: Fisheries characterisation assessment of a Scottish salmon farm boundary relocation. Co-author: fisheries characterisation-assessment report (MOWI, 2025).

Indian Ocean: Sustainable Indian Ocean Tuna Initiative (SIOTI II). Researcher and editor: consolidated extensive evidence records to enable continued reporting on the annual progress of the action plan for SIOTI (Thai Union, 2025).

Northern Europe: Scoping Study on Marine Litter from Aquaculture in the OSPAR Maritime Area. Researcher and editor: reported on and facilitated internationally attended stakeholder workshops to identify and address the sources of marine litter from aquaculture (Defra, 2024 - 2025).

UK: Study on the fishers’ experience with abandoned, lost and discarded fishing gear (ALDFG). Researcher and interviewer: assisted creation of a survey in consortium with Ipsos Mori, conducted on site data collection in ports across the UK, and contributed to report write-up (Defra 2023 - 2024).

UK: Study on the sensitivity of the <12 m vessel fleet to offshore wind development in the east marine plan area. Researcher, logistics coordinator, interviewer and co-author: led organisation and marketing for in person workshops across the east coast of the UK, followed by the running of said in person workshops. Alongside this, conducted extensive, desk based data collection, and report write up (MMO, 2023 - 2024).

Global: Marine Stewardship Council Chain of Custody review. Researcher, interviewer and co-author: investigation into the MSC certified Chain of Custody and the overall traceability of the process through auditing of the supply chain and interviewing of key international stakeholders (MSC, 2023).

UK: Recreational activity in MPAs around seagrass beds survey and report. Co-author, logistics coordinator and researcher: investigation into the levels of recreational activity in MPAs in Norfolk and the Isles of Scilly, and evaluation of their impact on the seagrass beds present – included coordination of fieldwork operatives across the UK (MMO, 2023).
